Description
Scottish Invertebrate records collected and collated by Buglife staff and volunteers (mainly Scottish locations in this dataset).
Records collected from several invertebrate surveys at various sites across Scotland using a variety of survey techniques and with different people. Data stored by Buglife Scotland (www.buglife.org.uk). Specimens from many of the surveys are stored by Buglife.
Geographic Description
Records mostly from various sites across Scotland with several from Peterborough in England.
Purpose
To provide distribution data for research and analysis of invertebrates in Scotland.
Data quality
Only verified data included in data set including verified historic records of Oil beetles and Glowworms. Undetermined specimens (e.g. juvenile spiders or certain flies) labelled as genus or family with certainty.
Methods
Data is collected by Buglife staff, experts and interested members of the public in the field. Techniques included pitfall traps, sweep netting, aerial netting, pond netting, hand collecting, light trapping and casual field observation. Each record has been verified by either the recorder or an aditional expert in specific taxa, and preserved specimens are available. Metadata for each record is available.
