Woodmeadow Invertebrate Survey 2016
Three Hagges Woodmeadow
Description
Invertebrate (insects, molluscs, arachnids, crustaceans) from sub-habitats within the developing wood-meadow ecosystem created de novo. Absences are not recorded.
Records collected to establish the biodiversity of the wood-meadow as it develops over time.
The majority of records are from March to October 2016 and the majority are diurnal exact date records.
Geographic Description
The dataset covers the whole of the wood-meadow area (10 hectares) and the coverage is reasonably complete, effort being made to sample all the sub-habitats within the area. The location of most observations has been possible to c.10m (8-figure grid references) because the recorders could georeferenced their position to known habitat structures previously fixed using high-precision GPS survey. However, some records could only be confidently attributed to a wider location (4-figure grid references). The wood-meadow is situated six miles south of York, between York and Selby, in the county of North Yorkshire. More specifically, it adjoins the eastern side of the A19 between the villages of Escrick and Riccall, and is situated in the National Grid 1km square SE6239. The approximate central 1m square of the survey area is SE62670396100; the approximate central latitudinal and longitudinal geographic co-ordinates are 53°50’55.96’N 1°02’56.00’W.
Data quality
There is a high level of confidence in the quality of all aspects of data capture: the data source, processing, validation and record collation. The majority of the data have been collected by professional entomologists and identified by them or acknowledged authorities where required.
Methods
The records are of specimens collected in the field and identified in the laboratory. Larger taxa (e.g. dragonflies) were identified from photographs.
