Strathclyde badger sett surveys 1996-2000
NatureScot
Description
A compilation of eight surveys commissioned by SNH covering Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire
Geographic Description
Strathclyde (parts of)
Purpose
To identify sett locations and assess distribution within selected grid squares to inform SNH casework.
Data quality
John Darbyshire Consultants, recognised badger experts, were commissioned to undertake the work. Some badger setts identified were disused at the time of survey; these are shown here as 'Absence' records, but badgers may still have been present in the vicinity.
Methods
Research of existing records followed by a foot search of each grid square for evidence of setts, latrines, pawprints, hair, forage and clawmarks. Discussion with local residents to determine local knowledge. Setts were recorded on sett record sheets based on the Mammal Society record sheet.
