Royal Society for the Protection of Birds
Description
Annual Breeding Wader Surveys carried out on lowland wetland sites, where habitat enhancement works have taken places across the North Isles of Orkney. Each registration represents the territory centre of a breeding pair. Species included in the dataset are: Eurasian oystercatcher, common ringed plover, European golden plover, northern lapwing, dunlin, Eurasian curlew, common snipe & common redshank.
Geographic Description
The dataset only includes records of 8 wader species within the survey boundaries of 20 sites across the North Isles of Orkney.
Purpose
The dataset exists to assess the continued population response of wader species to significant habitat management works at each site.
Data quality
All monitoring was undertaken by the same experienced surveyor who carried out all the survey work, territory analysis and data entry across the three years.
Methods
Surveys and territory analysis followed the O’Brien & Smith breeding wader survey method, but just 2 visits were carried out on each site every year.
