Records of pine martens from SNH casework reports and licence applications, 2005 - 2016
The dataset comprises records of pine marten and other species reported to SNH in relation to casework enquiries and licence applications to exclude the animals. Most records are of animals in buildings.
The records in this dataset relate to Scotland.
Following initial reports received from owner/occupiers or other members of the public, advice was provided on the most appropriate course of action to take, and where necessary licences were issued to permit exclusion of the animals. The dataset was compiled as part of an exercise to collate records of species listed in the Annexes of the EU Habitats & Species Directive, required for Article 17 Surveillance reporting.
There is a high degree of confidence - all signs were confirmed by experienced surveyors. The recorder name provided is generally that of the relevant SNH staff member or caseworker.
Initial reports were received from owner/occupiers or other members of the public. In most cases the sites were subsequently visited by experienced surveyors to assess the most appropriate course of action to take. The dataset was compiled from reports, casework record forms and other documents recording these cases held in SNH files.
